How to get and stay healthy by eating real food

Like most things in life, everything from furniture and decor to beauty and fashion changes with the seasons. Food trends are no different. Unbelievably, even food and diets follow trends, it’s just that they take longer to “phase out” than any other kind of trend. But unlike following fashion trends, following food trends can be quite dangerous.

Over the last thirty years or so, the most recognized and popular food trend worldwide, is high carb low fat diets. Prior to the 70s, people were eating natural foods, meaning unprocessed food. Usually these diets were relatively high in fat but very low in carbohydrates, sugar and excessive salt. As a result of this way of eating, very few people were overweight, let alone obese.

Then in the 1970s, all that changed. People began following high carb diets, consuming a lot of sugar and salty, fatty processed foods. As a result of this, more and more people began to gain weight and suffer from diseases related to excessive weight gain. Ready-made meals, bread, high salt and sugar content as well as hydrogenated fats were the culprits for the world’s ever expanding waistline.

Now, almost 40 years later, with more than half the world’s population overweight or obese, people are starting to realize that exercise alone will not reverse the damage done. Returning to a more organic or natural way of eating along with moderate exercise, not only reverses obesity, but also can put the brakes on some of the biggest killers like hypertension, cardiac and respiratory disease and diabetes.

People are now starting to look for diets that are healthy and there are sustainable for life. Programs like the outline diet are perfect for helping people with weight problems and weight related health problems not only lose weight, but improve their health dramatically.

How the alkaline diet works is by excluding foods that produce a high acidic level in the body. So instead of eating foods like too much red meat, carbohydrates and milk on the regular, swap out those foods for fresh fruit and vegetables like pumpkin, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas, avocados, berries and a whole host of other fresh fruit and vegetables along with proteins. All these are alkaline thing types of foods that will bring back the natural pH balance in the body, and therefore over time, restoring health.

On the other hand, carbohydrates still play an important role in our diets, so don’t exclude them entirely. Dairy is very high in protein, provided you avoid low fat or fat-free products. Remember, try to stick to foods that are in their most natural state. And this is especially true of carbohydrates, dairy and proteins. Of course, not everybody is buying into the low carb high-fat lifestyle. It’s difficult to ignore forty years of brainwashing regarding our diets in favour of eating a high-fat diet. Logic states that eating a high-fat diet will result in rapid weight gain and contribute towards coronary failure and stroke. This is not true. Some people still believe that sugar and carbohydrates provides our bodies with fuel. This is also not true.

The facts are that carbohydrates is the only macro-nutrient that the human body does NOT need to survive. Therefore, it is a very poor source of energy. Think of carbohydrates as fillers. If that doesn’t convince you, then consider that what farmers and producers are doing to speed up the production of beef, pork and poultry, is they are feeding these animals corn, cornmeal and other carbohydrates to fatten up these animals at an alarming rate for slaughter. Said makes perfect sense that if it fatten that the animals, it fatten is as up too. So it pays to pay attention to the kinds of carbohydrates you are eating.

As for sugar, it’s something everybody should just avoid as much as possible. Sugar has no nutritional value, and is not even good for energy. All it does is Spike your blood insulin really quickly, then you crash really hard and make you crave for more sugar. It’s a vicious cycle that is almost impossible to escape from. Instead use more natural sweeteners like honey, agave syrup, Stevia or Xylatol.

And then of course there’s fats. Not only is fat delicious, but it also a natural appetite suppressant and a brilliant energy source. If you’re eating a high-fat diet and you want to lose weight, then avoid processed foods, sugar and most carbohydrates while on a high-fat diet and you will lose weight. Fat have been given such a bad rap over the last couple of decades that people are terrified of eating it. If you want to start slowly, switch out your margarine for real better, avoid any oil is made from steeds like canola or sunflower and use olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil or macadamia nut oil instead. Coconut oil is the best, because it is not just good for eating, it’s good for your hair and skin as well.

The best thing about following a high-fat low carb diet is that you can enjoy things like butter, bacon and many other delicious REAL food that will not only make you look great and feel great, but help you control your weight at the same time.
