In this brave new world, this modern age that we live in, it is inevitable that with the ever expanding network of take-out joints and iterate hand fast food restaurants, comes the obvious companion of the expanding waistline. It’s a pandemic that has taken over the entire globe, and not on a small scale either. Up until about a decade or so ago, the US had the fattest population worldwide. This is no longer true because it has spread to every city in every country in the world. Countries like Asia and China used to be the healthiest and had the thinnest people, and everybody wants to be just like them. Well, now they are like everybody else: fat. And it’s all thanks to westernization in the Eastern countries.

So with this epidemic of fatness taking over the globe and everybody on it, every agony aunt and columnist in the world has something to say about how to lose weight or how to keep slim and healthy in some shape or form. Suddenly everybody is an expert and has weight loss tips that they claim is guaranteed to help you lose weight. All you have to do is check your inbox and you’re probably find at least two emails a day on the topic of weight loss with a few tips and tricks on how to “lose the belly fat” or “tone your thighs”. Unfortunately, neither one of the above mentioned is possible because you can’t isolate body part and lose weight on specific parts only. Weight loss is spread equally over the body. Anybody tells you anything different, is lying to you.

At the risk of sounding like one of these ignoramus blowhards, they really are a few, or maybe not so few, tips and tricks to lose weight. It might not be as magically fast as most would like, but slow and steady weight loss is far better and healthier than extreme or fast weight loss. Not just for the health implications but also for the way you will physically look. If you lose weight too fast, you can wind up with a lot of excess skin that is not given enough chance to shrink with you, so you wind up looking like you wearing fat person’s skin, folds of flesh hanging out of your belly, your thighs, your elbows and your knees. It’s not an attractive sight and it is extremely difficult, and expensive, to get rid of. By slowing down the weight loss process you give your body a chance to keep up with your weight loss. Sure you might wind up with some stretch marks, but rather the stretch marks then masses of excess hanging skin. So to avoid this horrible fate, here are a few tips it really do work.

Let’s start with the obvious one which would be to drink more water. Most people don’t like to drink water on its own, so flavour it with things like mint and lemon or even some orange wedges. There is no rule that says you have to be drinking water only, just as long as you not drinking an excessive amount of caffeine or taking too much sugar. So drink tea with honey for instance. You’ll be amazed that by just increasing your fluid intake on a daily basis how much weight you will do is simply because, you are keeping your body hydrated, which in turn keeps hunger pangs and is unnecessary cravings and bay.

Now, as obvious as taking in more fluids might be, so is the next one. Eat more vegetables, preferably fresh and preferably raw. By doing this you increasing your antioxidant that you taking into your system which helps fight free radicals and helps to keep your body healthy, which in turn helps you lose weight. If you are quite serious about losing weight, it really is recommended that you eat a minimum of half a plate of vegetables at least twice a day. Even potatoes count even though they are a starchy food. Potatoes are brilliant because of their high potassium properties and the fact that they can keep you full for longer because they are a simple starch, which means you stay fuller for longer.

Believe it or not, you really should have fat included in your diet if you want to lose weight. Mind you, it should be vegetable fat and not animal fat. This means you need to cut off all excess fat from meat and poultry if you want to lose weight, and get your facts from plant varieties like canola oil, olive oil and sunflower oils even coconut oil. Soft tub margarine is a far better choice over butter, for obvious reasons.

The funny thing about the tips I have given you, is that these are the same types of tips or advice that a doctor or even a dietician would give you for a steady and healthy weight loss plan. The thing to remember when it comes to weight loss, is that there is no magic. Going faster is definitely not better in this case, and that the risk of sounding like a total clichéd idiot, slow and steady really does win this race.

  1. I agree with you that in losing weight there is no magic, you really have to put effort and focus to your goal. It is really about motivating yourself.
