How to avoid the “yo-yo” diet effect

If you ask any woman about her lifelong struggle with her weight, most likely she’ll say something along the lines of “it has always been inconsistent” or “it’s a struggle to keep a constant weight, so I’m usually dieting on and off throughout the year”. The reason for this is because it’s almost impossible to sift through the thousands of weight loss programs online and find the diamond in the rough.

Strangely enough, most women don’t go to their GPs for weight loss advice, mainly because most of us forget that he or she has our complete medical history, and therefore is probably better equipped for helping us with our weight loss goals. So here is some really good advice for all women (and men) for when it comes to looking to lose weight: your family Doctor should be your very first step in your journey to weight loss. Ask for a full check-up that includes blood work for cholesterol, thyroid (test for TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, and Thyroid Antibodies) as well as diabetes.

Most are surprised by the results. The sad reality is that because of the populations growing waistlines, most overweight people are insulin resistant or prediabetic, and don’t even know it. Hypothyroidism, diabetes or prediabetes (insulin resistance) depression, anxiety and stress are all reasons why you might not be losing weight. And this is exactly why visiting your Doctor first is essential to effective and permanent weight loss.

From there, you can now decide whether or not you want to use medication (if you are insulin resistant or diabetic your doctor will prescribe metformin anyway), a weight loss program like the cruise control diet (or about that later) or an entire new lifestyle change. Whichever way you choose to go, having had a medical check-up first is your first line of attack in the battle for weight loss.

There are plenty of weight loss programs available like the cruise control diet that can help people lose weight at a regular pace with the help of a diet and workout program. The cruise control diet is actually quite effective. It’s very easy to follow and can easily be permanently switched out with your regular diet for a new lifestyle. This will ensure a steady pace of weight loss (not too fast and definitely not too slow) that easy to maintain, especially once you’ve reached your goal weight.

Probably the best part of the cruise control diet is the fact that it doesn’t have any “rules” per se. It has a few guidelines that make things so much easier. Most programs insist that you can’t your calories or way your food (when raw) measure portions out. The cruise control diet does not require you to do any of this. Neither do you have to buy any specialty foods or ingredients to follow the program. It easy to fit into your life because it doesn’t eat up large chunks of your day preparing meals.

As far as the so-called “rules” go, you could do far worse than:

  1. Eat natural foods and eat foods that jump starts the body’s natural fat burning process.
  2. Stay away from processed foods as far as possible.
  3. Treat yourself to your favourite pastry or ice cream from time to time. Restricting yourself from these foods is only and make you crave the more anyway, so give in now under gain, just be careful.
  4. Listen to your body and to follow your body’s natural time table for meals, and not the clock, so eat when you’re hungry and not before.

Once you’ve reached your goal weight, with a few small tweaks, the cruise control diet can then be use as a lifelong maintenance weight loss plan to keep the weight off for good. Easy!

Another really good program include the Alkaline Diet which is closer to the way we used to eat before we all became “modernize”. By following the Alkaline Diet, you are able to reverse the high acid levels of your body’s pH and normalize it. Once you do this, you’ll find that you suffer less from indigestion, headaches, heartburn, stomach ulcers and a host of other problems. The Alkaline Diet is not restrictive in any way and includes something from every single food group, just the best options of them.

If you follow any of these above mentioned tips or programs, you’ll find that your days of yo-yo dieting are over. And not only that, you will find you are far happier with yourself and your diet and fall in love with your progress and new, healthier, slimmer body.
